Congress hosting activities in Bordeaux remain dynamic in 2019
The destination and its facilities continue to win over medical and scientific congress organizers.
The Bordeaux Events team will be hosting nearly 40 congresses, 20 of which will be dedicated to the medical and scientific fields. The destination’s popularity among congress and seminar organizers has not diminished. This is due not only to the economic and tourist appeal of Bordeaux and its region, but also to its excellence in the scientific and medical fields.
The region’s healthcare industry is highly successful and is especially present in 4 major priority business sectors: medical devices, e-health, biotechnology and pharmacy, and cosmetics. The Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region’s Health Innovation Alliance brings together 8 clusters and 1 competitiveness centre (Cancer-Bio-Santé, Cluster Médical du Limousin, Cluster TIC Santé, Osasuna, 2ACBI, RDM-NA, Grand Poitiers Technology Park and GIPSO). The Alliance represents 250 companies and 36 research and training institutions. This organization supports a strong regional network and mutual efforts aimed at highlighting the development and influence of healthcare stakeholders.
In late 2017, a neuroscience research centre was established in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region. Bordeaux Neurocampus, located near the University Hospital, brings together 650 researchers specialized in neuroscience and rivals world-renowned organizations.
With a strong culture of innovation and high-quality, Bordeaux is developing excellence in research and a global reputation in Neuroscience, Cardiology, Imaging and Oncology.
Bordeaux University Hospital has been recognized for its high-quality infrastructures and staff. For the past three years, it has been ranked among the top hospitals by Le Point magazine (ranked 1st among public hospitals in 2016 and 2017, and 2nd in 2018).
At the same time, Bordeaux University is a genuine powerhouse contributing to the attractiveness of the region, and a powerful lever of economic competitiveness. With its 80,000 students and 11,600 researchers, it is among the five “IDEX” Initiative of Excellence universities in France, a program aimed at developing R&D and internationalization.
With all these strengths and its pool of world-renowned scientific experts, Bordeaux remains the ideal location for organizing international medical, scientific and technical conferences, seminars and congresses.
Over 20 major scientific and medical congresses have chosen Bordeaux to host their 2019 events in partnership with Bordeaux Events.
The majority of these events will be held at the Bordeaux Congress Centre and the Cité Mondiale Convention Centre. The layout and facilities at these two venues are perfectly suited for professional events combining conferences, workshops and exhibitions.
In the spring of 2019, Bordeaux Exhibition Centre will open a new Exhibition and Congress Hall featuring a flexible, state-of-the-art space offering all the facilities congress organizers are looking for: a plenary hall with a seating capacity of 6,000, an adjoining exhibition space and 12 meeting rooms.
“We do more than simply offer the use of our facilities and dedicated services; we become a genuine partner for our customers. We are fully aware of all that is at stake in these strategic events. We regularly work at the request of project leaders to support them in preparing their applications to organize major scientific events,” explains the Director, Karine Santamaria.
2019 will be marked by regional, national and international congresses for groups ranging from 200 to 2,000 participants.
In March, Bordeaux Events will host Myology 2019, the international myology congress with 1,000 participants. This event, organized by AFM Téléthon, will highlight research in nerve and muscle physiology and neuromuscular diseases in general.
In June, we will have the pleasure of welcoming 1,000 delegates from the ANPDE for the National Study Days for Childcare Workers. This will be a particularly important event as the association celebrates its 70-year anniversary.
In October we will host the 2019 Interactive Days of Therapeutic Reality in Dermatology (JIRD) as well as the SOFMER Congress (Société Française de Médecine Physique et de Réadaptation), two major national events that each expect to welcome over 1,300 participants.
