An international medical congress in Bordeaux
Bordeaux Congress Centre hosted the 5th Systemic Sclerosis World Conference from 15 to 17 February 2018
Organised by AIM Group International, this 5th world congress on systemic sclerosis – a rare autoimmune disease – was held at Bordeaux Congress Centre from 15 to 17 February, 2018.
This three-day event brought together 1200 participants from 56 countries, and its logistics required very precise management of the available space. Indeed, there was an exceptionally busy programme of events with a multitude of conferences, practical workshops and satellite sessions.
All areas of Bordeaux Congress Centre were equipped to accommodate this event, i.e. the three auditoriums, the 10 committee rooms and the multipurpose area.
Danièle Pouvreau, Technical Sales Business Manager at Bordeaux Events, worked in close collaboration with Lorenzo Mori, Senior Project Manager at AIM Group International, for a whole year on the organisation of this major international congress. The event organisers visited the venue on two occasions prior to the congress in order to familiarise themselves with the site and prepare the logistics
Bordeaux Events provided a range of different services for the congress, including the installation of indoor and outdoor signage and the management of audiovisual and information technology services, catering services and coffee breaks.
The team was also responsible for displaying the 200 posters for the scientific exhibition and fitting out the conference and committee rooms which had to be adapted to the needs of each different activity.
A special characteristic of the 5th Systemic Sclerosis World Congress was the combination of two events in one, because a patients’ congress was held at the same time as the scientific congress.
The quality of the Congress Centre’s facilities, and the city of Bordeaux’s accessibility – thanks to the numerous air links serving Bordeaux-Mérignac airport, in particular – were key factors in the organisers’ choice of destination.
The environment also played an important role, with the participants enjoying a superb gala evening at the Château Giscours in the Médoc vineyard.
